Chembur and BKC recorded the highest concentrations, with levels over twice the national standard.

Construction dust is a major contributor to the high PM10 levels, with around 3,000 projects currently active across the city.

According to authorities, adhering to guidelines is crucial to mitigate pollution levels.

Context

The high PM10 levels in Mumbai are a cause for concern, with the city’s residents exposed to poor air quality. The national PM10 limit is 60 micrograms per cubic meter, but most stations in Mumbai have recorded levels above 120 micrograms per cubic meter.

Response

The BMC has emphasized the importance of adhering to guidelines to mitigate pollution levels. However, the high number of construction projects in the city suggests that a more comprehensive approach is needed to address the issue.

“We urge all contractors and builders to adhere to the guidelines and take necessary measures to prevent dust pollution,” said a BMC official.

The city’s residents are also calling for action to address the air pollution issue. “We need a more comprehensive plan to tackle air pollution in Mumbai,” said a resident. “The BMC needs to take a more proactive approach to address this issue.”

Forward Context: The BMC has set a deadline to implement the guidelines and reduce PM10 levels in the city. Residents are urging the authorities to take a more comprehensive approach to address the issue.
